This is a Government organization defined as “EXCISE’’ department under the control of Govt. in Orissa Excise Department/ Excise Commissioner Orissa. This office is sub-ordinate Office, which is functioning in this District since 1951.

2. Objective.

Basically collection of Excise revenue, to control the manufacture distribution and sale of liquor and prohibiting the sale of spurious liquor and other works assigned in the Orissa Excise Manual.

3. Formation / Set-Up.

This office is consisting with 1 (one) Superintend of Excise, 2 (two) Inspector of excise, 8 (eight) Sub-Inspector of Excise, 7 (seven) A.S.I, of Excise, 41 (forty one) Excise Constables, 1 (one) head clerk, & 1 (one) Senior clerk, Besides that, 2 (two) Range Office & 8 (eight) Charge Office are functioning in this district. They are Sadar Range / Dharmagarh Range Charge Office at Sadar, Kesinga, Lanjigarh, M. Rampur, Th, Rampur, Junagarh, Dharmagarh, & Jaipatna.

4. Activities.

· Collection of Excise Revenue.

· Prevention of Excise Crime.

· Ensure lifting of IMFL & Beer and utilization of Mahua flower. (sale of O.S Liquor.)

This is a Govt. Organization defined as “ EXCISE’’ Department under control of Govt. in Excise Deptt. / Excise Commissioner, Orissa. This Office is Sub-ordinate office, which is functioning in this district since 1951. Regarding function and duties, it is stated that, duties performed as per the Govt. Rules and regulations basically, collection of Excise revenue, to control the manufacture distribution and sale of liquor and other works assigned in the Orissa Excise Manual.

9. Policy.

Excise Policy released by the Govt. in Excise Department for the year 2008-09 in respect of all kinds of Excise shops and infrastructure. (Copy of the policy enclosed).

10. Statisticas in comparison to the state.

The revenue of the district in Rs 7,05,99,305/-, which was collected as excise revenue during the year 2007-08. The target of revenue for 2008-09 Rs 8,15,00,000/-. There are 71 O.S shop (Main), 72 Branches shop, 25 I.M.F.L’ OFF’ shops, 4 I.M.F.L ‘ON’ shops, One Beer Parlour functioning in this district.

Excise offences are non-bail able. In the year 2007-08 (719 cases has been detected and in the year 2008-09 up to May-08) & 121 cases have been booked and 17 persons have been arrested.
